Mother is a massive part of my identity. I grew up on a farm with three brothers, my father, grandfather, uncle and great uncle and have always been surrounded by the boys. I became a Police Officer at 19, before quotas, and again was with the boys.
I love the boys. Have always been one of the boys.
Then I became a mother.
A ‘girl mum’.
I had no idea I would ever be a ‘girl mum’.
But … I’m a girl mum!
I didn’t find out that my two youngest were girls until their delivery, and it was so foreign to be surrounded by so much pink in the hospital (I never did pink before becoming a girl mum) and then when my girls were four and five, I also became Mum to two girls through the foster care system.
This pic is from ten years ago when my youngest Miss Melia was five, Miss Breezey is seven, (and yes that is me in the middle in my short-dark-hair phase) then there’s little Miss La-La on my right who is six, and Miss Sav on the end is nine.
And while I never ever thought I’d be a girl Mum…. I love being a girl Mum!
I adore my girls, we’re in a completely different phase to what we were in this pic now that they’re teenagers. I was reminded again this week while in a Leadership Workshop how important it is to focus on ‘playing the ball and not the girl’. (If you’ve got teenagers, I know you feel me and also need this reminder!)
Tomorrow will be a cute home-cooked breakfast, flowers in a jar from the neighbour's garden, church and a cozy arvo in - bliss!
Tell me about you! What will you be doing, eating and wearing for Mother's Day?
