ICYMI, we are halfway through the "SheFarmer 7 Day Challenge" (#SF7DC - come join us on Instagram!) where for a week, at the end of each month, we prioritise our business and our wellbeing. Wellbeing includes our health, happiness, and relationships.
Over the years my weight has gone up and down more than the seesaw at your local playground. I’ve had to work really hard to achieve my health and fitness goals, and to give up my chocolate addiction! I was the slowest kid at school and always came last in all of the athletic competitions. I left the farm at nineteen to become a Police Officer and my time at the Police Academy taught me what my body is capable of achieving. (Mind you, it is also amazing what you can do when your part of a team and have people screaming at you!)
It's important to invest in ourselves and take the time to learn about our wellbeing and bodies. The NFF released a report today about wellbeing in rural and regional Australia, people are suffering. (The stats are woeful, and run parallel with many reports before them. If you are really suffering, I’ve been you and while it’s always hard to speak up and speak out, once you have vented in a safe space and got some support things slowly get better. I’ll put some helpful phone numbers in the comments below.)
Even if we don't have access to a gym or classes, there are always ways to get moving - whether that\s taking a walk outside, doing floor fitness classes in our living room, or using apps like C25K to become a runner.
Here are some questions to consider as you think about your own health journey:
- What are some recent health successes you've had?
- What are some of your health struggles?
- Who can support you (GP, partner, friend, Facebook group) as you work towards better health?
- What other factors are affecting your current health?
- What feelings do you need to acknowledge that are holding you back from achieving your health goals?
And remember, it's always a good idea to check in with your local GP before starting a new health journey and to also chat through your wellbeing.
